Biblical Archeology

Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

I enjoy watching archeological studies on you tube and reading about past discoveries. It is amazing that what these guys discover has always been there. People have walked over them for years. Some people are satisfied with the stories past down while others pick up a shovel and investigate. Many of these digs have confirmed the stories and many have disproved “popular” opinion. But in every case, truth is revealed.

This is so like studying about the things of God. Revelation is the uncovering of truth. Many times we ask God, “Just tell me the truth”. When all the while it is there just under our feet.

Studying God’s Word is like excavating for truth. It is all there, we just have to dig for it. Initial inspiration begins when we pick up shovel.

As in archeology, the closer you get to a discovery the slower you dig and with each discovery, or revelation, inspiration increases. The deeper you dig the clearer the truth becomes. Man’s opinion plays less a role as truth is discovered. Even at times when you are digging to confirm a truth, you may find out that your truth was incorrect. However, you will never truly know until you dig.

I challenge you, to pick up the shovel. And remember this, we have a helper that will guide us:

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
