I want More, More, More!!!
This seems to be the cry. When Jesus cried on the cross, he said IT IS FINISHED. We are like unsatisfied children always looking for more. THERE IS NO MORE!! He has given us all we need. His Word, His life, His resurrection and His Holy Spirit. There is no new revelation other than what is already given.
We must echo what John the Baptist said, “I MUST DECREASE AND HE MUST INCREASE”. Or as the Apostle Paul said
“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.”
How can we count the gift of God, His Son Jesus, as not enough? We have adopted the “What’s in it for me” attitude. Are we saying that what God has given us is not enough?
It’s in the secret times we spend with the Lord. Day after day in prayer in his word. So, saying “more Lord” in this vein isn’t necessarily bad but expectations should be managed. Because it is finished! Jesus is everything.
I think we find that the more of Him or His glory is actually a lessening of ourselves. AW Tozer wrote in his book “In Pursuit of God”, even though the veil to the Holy of Holies was destroyed on crucifixion day when Christ died there still remains a veil of flesh preventing us from entering in to the Holy of Holies. As this veil is melted away by His Word being revealed, obeyed, and experienced, more is revealed. Paul wrote: Galatians 2:20 — I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Our soulish nature prevents us from seeing all there is of God. The remedy is His Word. As it is written
Hebrews 4:12 — For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
When our soul is controlled by our spirit, that is controlled by the Holy Spirit, instead of being controlled by the flesh then we grow in the knowledge of His truth and it seems like we are getting more of God when the more has always been there it was just hidden by the veil of our flesh. Oh yes, the Glory Moments” are awesome but if we do not purposely choose by the act of our will to eat His Word and pray for this separation of flesh and spirit then it is for nothing.
Matthew 16:17 KJV — And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
I am convinced that if we truly focus our will on knowing God that He will take us through what we need because He is a Father that cares.
I am reminded of this old hymn,
God Leads His Dear Children Along.
In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along;
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.
Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along.
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.
Though sorrows befall us and evils oppose,
God leads His dear children along.
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
God leads His dear children along.
Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
God leads His dear children along;
Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
God leads His dear children along.
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.

During those ‘blessing times’ emotions are high and we feel that rush that makes us feel invincible and closer to the Lord. I would say that is what people are asking more of. I think there are changes that happen in those “glory” times sometimes not, if you see fruit from it then there was. But more time with him and God’s word everyday yields a foundation . Then we can have the decernment to test the spirit. So we know what we are asking more of.
Yes Miss, you are right on. I love the feeling of emotion that comes. However I do not trust them without checking them with the Word. In the Apostle John’s introduction to his epistle he says this:
1 John 1:3-4 KJV — That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
